We know that the actions that are good for health are good for the planet whilst the effects of climate change are bad for health.
The effects of climate change are already disproportionately impacting on our most disadvantaged communities, widening inequalities. Poor health increases demand on our health and care services – delivering that care comes at a financial cost as well as an environmental cost, creating more carbon emissions.
Climate policies help us to achieve major health and wellbeing co-benefits, strengthening the case for action on climate change. The health benefits of climate policies resonate strongly with the public and policy makers due to the direct nature of some of the health effects, with benefits evident over shorter timescales, strengthening the case for action on climate change.
You will be able to confidently use this narrative in your everyday work ,refer back to the content and use with wider partners. The narrative supports and strengthens the ADPHY&H priority ambition on Climate and Sustainability. It is also a clear call to action that supports our increasing and urgent role linked to health and climate change. We must be louder and better equipped with facts for a health centred response to climate change.
We are planning to provide a programme of workforce development around climate change and sustainability, if you would like to register your interest to receive these offers, please register your interest here.
