Sector-led Improvement Conference - 13 October 2023

Many of the people of Yorkshire and the Humber have long struggled with the health impacts of health inequalities, poverty and poor living, as have many people across the country. The past few years have seen dramatic increases in these issues, whether through the impacts of the Covid pandemic, the rising interest rates and rent/mortgage prices, or the general surge in cost of living and the prices of everyday essentials. These impacts are not just socio-economic, but impact directly on the health of people living at all levels of our communities across the region.

Directors of Public Health in Yorkshire and the Humber have agreed their collective aspiration to look at the health impacts of poverty and the cost-of-living issues on the communities across the region, with an aim to identify how the public health system in the region can add value to help reduce these health impacts. Whether that be through the advocating for change, looking at local initiatives already making a difference in parts of the region that could be replicated in other areas, looking at initiatives that could be implemented on a wider, regional footprint that could support people better, or looking to work more effectively with other partners across the public health system and elsewhere to collaborate.

This year’s Sector-Led Improvement Conference aims to look at all of this and to provide an opportunity to showcase and celebrate all the great work that has been happening around the region over the last year or so to improve all aspects of public health working across the wide public health system of Yorkshire and the Humber.
