Homes and Health Webinar Series

Our homes have a powerful influence on our health and wellbeing.

Improving our homes presents a significant opportunity to prevent ill health, reduce health inequalities and improve wellbeing across the life course. Our homes are the main setting for our lives and our health, impacting how we grow and learn, thrive and work, and our experience of illness, disability, and aging. Homes are fundamental to giving children the best start in life, for creating thriving, cohesive communities and enabling people to remain healthy, happy and independent for as long as possible.

Everyone has the right to a home that supports their health and wellbeing but some communities and groups are more likely to experience poor health because of their housing and living conditions. Poor, unsuitable housing negatively affects individuals but also impacts on communities, services, and our wider environment and economy. Although housing itself can be very diverse in type, tenure, size and location, a healthy home is one that is safe, warm and comfortable; accessible, suitable and affordable, and one that provides a sense of security and connection.

Join us as we look at the relationship between homes and health in the Yorkshire and Humber region. We will hear interesting examples and explore opportunities to improve health through the home. We will ask some big questions of our homes and health systems, and bring together a diverse range of experts to envisage systems for the future. What does good look like? What are the policy levers and drivers for change and influence? What are our challenges, inequalities, gaps and opportunities? We will combine case studies and practical ideas, lived experience and good practice with local intelligence and expertise. To reflect the Yorkshire and Humber region we will give delegates an opportunity to have an influence and a voice, with opportunities to comment and ask questions. There are seven webinars.
