The Community Health and Wellbeing Apprenticeship

P - Perform actions to protect and improve health
A - Achieve a recognised apprenticeship for your development
C - Contribute to positive change in peoples live
T - Transform health outcomes in your community
Are you in a role where you can make a positive 'impact' on health of people in your community? If the answer in 'Yes' then this apprenticeship maybe for you? You don't need to be in a role that has Community Health and Wellbeing in the title but you need to be able to able to undertake the duties that are defined with this apprenticeship standard.
The apprenticeship is typically 12-15 months long and is in most cases fully funded through either an employer levy (larger employers) or through levy gifting (smaller employers). As with all government backed apprenticeships, there is a requirement to be in paid employment for 30 hours per week and the employer must provide 6 hours per week for ‘off the job training’. Typically, the modules/units cover:
- How to help communities to build local resilience and identify strengths, capacity and resources that support their health and wellbeing
- How to provide informed advice about local services and projects that support health and wellbeing
- Using preventative approaches to promote the health and wellbeing of individuals, groups and communities, addressing the wider determinants of health and causes of ill health
- Applying behavioural science to help people find practical solutions for better health and wellbeing

Why is this apprenticeship more important than ever?
The UK Government’s 10 Year Health Plan sets out a bold vision for the future of health and care, built on three strategic shifts:
- From hospital to community: Bringing care closer to people’s homes and neighbourhoods, with a focus on prevention and early intervention.
- From analogue to digital: Embracing new technology to make care more accessible and efficient.
- From sickness to prevention: Prioritising health promotion, tackling inequalities, and supporting people to live healthier lives.
The Community Health and Wellbeing Apprenticeship directly supports these national priorities. By developing a skilled, community-focused workforce, this programme helps employers and staff lead the transformation the NHS and our communities need.
